I’m making my wordpress backups with mysqldump or automysqlbackup but I see that sometimes the backup is 2-3 times bigger than a day ago and it gets reduced again as well.

I’m not sure whether this is expected or not. Sites that have hardly any traffic do not show this at all. Is there some kind of compression process active inside of wordpress. I wasn’t able to find anything online around this topic.
